There is a reason jersey has become the default for everyday wear. You wrap it, you drape it, and it stays. No pins, no constant adjusting, no quiet worry that something is shifting while you get on with your day.
But "jersey" is not a fabric — it is a way of constructing one. And the differences within that category are larger than most people expect. We sell two: Premium Jersey and Fluid Jersey. Here is what separates them, and which suits which kind of day.
Jersey is knitted, not woven. Weaving crosses threads in a grid; knitting loops them through one another. That looped structure gives jersey two properties that happen to suit a headscarf exactly.
First, it stretches across the width, so the fabric follows the shape of your head rather than sitting rigidly over it. Second, knitted surfaces have slight grip against themselves — they do not slide across other fabric the way a smooth woven scarf does. That grip is the whole reason you can wear one without pins.
Add lycra and the fabric also springs back to its original shape. That is the difference between a scarf that still looks right at five in the afternoon and one that has gone slack.
Our Premium Jersey is 96% polyester and 4% lycra, weighing 280 grams. Our Fluid Jersey is 90% polyester and 10% lycra, weighing 240 grams.
Those two numbers — weight and lycra content — tell the whole story.
Premium Jersey is heavier with less stretch. Here the weight does the work. The fabric falls under its own mass and stays where you place it. The 4% lycra is enough to move with you comfortably, but the fabric is not elastic in the sense of tensioning around shapes. It is stable. If you want a structured drape that holds all day, this is the one.
Fluid Jersey is lighter with far more stretch. At 10% lycra the fabric actively adapts to movement. It follows your head, gives as you turn, and returns to shape. Where Premium Jersey stays put through weight, Fluid Jersey stays put through elasticity. The result feels lighter and more mobile, and falls more softly.
Think in terms of purpose rather than quality.
Choose Premium Jersey if you want a scarf you shape in the morning and then forget about. For working days, for long days out, for any time you would rather not think about your hijab at all. And if full coverage without an undercap matters — in most colours, 280 grams handles that effortlessly.
Choose Fluid Jersey if you are active, if 280 grams feels like too much, or if you prefer a softer fall. It covers just as well while feeling less present. For long wearing days where weight starts to register, it is often the more comfortable choice.
One honest caveat on Premium Jersey: lighter shades can show some sheerness. Pale Ivory, Soft Almond and Silver Mauve are beautiful, but if full coverage is non-negotiable for you, wear an undercap with them. In darker tones — Black, Deep Ash, Dark Mahogany — this does not arise.
Fluid Jersey is fully opaque across every colour.
Jersey with lycra owes its recovery to the elastic fibre, and that fibre is most vulnerable to heat. That is the single most useful thing to know about care: washing or ironing too hot is what degrades lycra over time, not the wearing itself.
Specific washing instructions come with your order via QR code. Also worth knowing: the 175 × 70 cm measurement can vary slightly, since fabric shrinks a little when ironed.
